The UK Student Visa allows international students to live and study in the UK. It is designed for individuals aged 16 or above who have been offered a place on a course by a licensed educational institution.

Your application timeline depends on whether you are applying from inside or outside the UK.
Applying from Outside the UK
● You can apply for a visa up to 6 months before your course begins.
● A decision on your visa is typically made within 3 weeks.
Applying from Inside the UK
● You can apply as early as 3 months before your course starts.
● Ensure you apply before your current visa expires, and your new course must begin within 28 days of your current visa expiring.
● A decision is usually made within 8 weeks.
The length of your stay in the UK depends on the duration of your course and your previous study experience in the UK.
● If you are 18 or older and your course is at the degree level, you can typically stay in the UK for up to 5 years.
● If your course is below degree level, you can usually stay in the UK for up to 2 years.
● Offer from a Licensed Institution: A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a UK educational provider.
● Financial Proof:
○ Course fees.
○ Living costs (e.g., £1,334 per month for London, £1,023 per month
outside London).
● English Language Proficiency:
○ Proof through recognized tests like IELTS or equivalent qualifications.
● Health Insurance:
○ Payment of the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for access to the UK’s healthcare system.
What You Can Do:
● Study in your chosen course.
● Work as a student union sabbatical officer.
● You may be allowed to work depending on your course and whether you’re working during term-time or breaks.
What You Cannot Do:
● Claim public funds (such as benefits or pensions).
● Work in certain professions, such as a professional sportsperson or sports coach.
● Be self-employed.
● Study at an academy or a local authority-funded school (also referred to as a maintained school).
If your application is approved, you will be informed about the specific activities you are and aren’t allowed to do under your Student visa.
The UK Graduate Visa allows international students to stay in the UK for up to 2 years (or 3 years for PhD graduates) after completing an eligible degree in the UK. It offers flexibility to work, seek employment, or switch to other visa categories.
● Qualification: Must have completed an eligible course, such as a bachelor’s,
master’s, or PhD, at a UK institution.
● Study Requirements: Must have studied in the UK for at least 12 months or
the full course duration if shorter.
● University Sponsorship: The institution must be a UK higher education
provider with a record of compliance.
● Current Visa: Must apply while holding a valid Student or Tier 4 visa.
